WHAT HAPPENS ON THE DAY.

PRE-APPOINTMENT: After you’ve confirmed your appointment, our receptionist will send you a Medical History Questionnaire to fill out before your appointment. This form helps the dentist understand your medical background before starting dental work. If you don’t fill it out at home, you can arrive 10 minutes early and complete it in the waiting room.

ARRIVAL & INTRODUCTION: When the Oral Health Therapist is ready to see you, they will call your name and invite you to join them in their clinic room. They’ll introduce themselves and any assistant working with them and ask if you have any concerns about your teeth.

OPG/XRAYS:  Your Oral Health Therapist will take you to the OPG room to take images of your teeth and jawbone. This allows the dentist to comprehensively assess your teeth, fillings, caps or crowns and ensure no diseases or problems. It will also include an oral cancer screening.

SCALE & CLEAN: Your Oral Health Therapist will gently scale and clean your teeth. A professional dental clean helps remove any plaque and tartar buildup on the teeth, as you can’t remove this buildup by brushing at home. Tartar and plaque cause tooth decay and gum disease, so you must have this removed regularly through professional dental appointments.

Your hygienist will then polish your teeth with a special type of toothpaste that helps remove any lingering bacteria on your teeth. It will also make your teeth feel smooth and fantastic! Finally, they may apply fluoride to help further reduce the risk of dental decay and decrease tooth sensitivity.

CHECKUP & DENTAL INSPECTION: After your dental clean, it’s time to meet your friendly dentist, who’ll inspect your teeth. After you recline in the dentist’s chair, the dentist will gently investigate the current health and status of your teeth, gums, bite and jaw alignment. It’s a painless procedure, but if ever you feel uncomfortable, you can ask the dentist to stop at any time.

After your checkup, the dentist will chat with you about the condition of your teeth and gums and provide details on the suggested treatment options. They’ll also give you a personalised treatment plan with all options, required appointments and costs outlined for you. Then, the reception team can swipe your health insurance card (if you have insurance) through our HICAPS machine and tell you exactly how much your health insurance fund will reimburse you.

If your teeth and gums are in great shape and you don’t require any treatment, you can book another checkup in six months or at the time the dentist recommends.
