Wisdom Teeth

GENTLE REMOVAL, PERFORMED IN-CHAIR AT OUR MANNING DENTAL CLINIC.

ABOUT YOUR WISDOM TEETH...

At around ages 17 to 25, our wisdom teeth start to come through. There’s often not enough room in your mouth, so your wisdom teeth become ‘impacted’ in the gums. This impaction can cause infection, tooth decay or pain.

To avoid wisdom teeth problems, you must see a dentist around the abovementioned age to assess your teeth and have a professionally advised plan. Book an appointment with one of our experienced dentists today. If your wisdom teeth need to be removed, typically, the procedure can be done at the clinic. Alternatively, you may be referred to an oral surgeon for removal in a hospital.

Note: Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek advice from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Not everyone needs their wisdom teeth removed. There is no need for removal if they:

  • Have already fully grown in
  • Are sitting in the right place and are aligned correctly, allowing for good biting
  • Are healthy
  • Allow you to bite and chew correctly
  • Can be cleaned well

However, if they have not grown in, see a dentist so they can x-ray and examine you and advise you whether you need your wisdom teeth removed.

After wisdom teeth removal, stick to a soft food diet. Soft foods include yoghurt, mashed potatoes, jelly and soups. After 24 hours, you may eat semi-soft foods like eggs, soft vegetables, chicken, and beef.

Wisdom teeth can be removed in-chair, at the dentist, or in hospital. After examining you, your dentist will give you the options that are most appropriate for you.
